Celine Marie Claudette Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada. The youngest of 14 children of Adhemar and Therese Dion, she grew up in a close-knit musical family. Her parents had created a singing group, and they toured Canada when Celine was still a child. They later had opened a piano bar, where 5 years old Celine used to sing to the customers.

When Celine was just 12 years old, her mother and her brother had recorded a song which her mother had written for her. It’s called “Ce n’était qu’un rêve” that means It was only a dream. Her brother had sent the tape to Rene Angelil a manager and a producer, who had managed her career. He had not only managed her career but mortgage her property to promote her first album. He had also handled the career of famous French singer Ginette Reno. He had the right attitude to take the risk. According to me, he must have been a person of great courage who was never afraid of taking the risks.

After listening to Celine’s voice he had invited Celine Dion to perform. As soon so as he heard her singing he signed her immediately. He financed her first debut album, La Voix du bon Dieu.

By the time Celine was 18, she had already recorded nine French albums and won many Felix and Juno awards, the Canadian Equivalent to Grammy Award. In 1988, she had won Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland., and it was broadcast live in countries throughout Europe, The Middle East, Australia and Japan. After this contest only she had started looking forward to beginning her career in the United State of America. But there was a challenge in front of to learn English as she comes from a French-speaking background. She was so determined to have a career in America, that she worked so hard for it and every day she used to learn English morning to evening just to make it happen.

Celine Dion first breakthrough

Celine Dion got her first breakthrough in America with ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in 1992. She recorded the theme song for Disney’s super hit animated feature Beauty and the Beast, a duet with Peabo Bryson. The song won both a Grammy and an Academy Award, and 12 million copies were sold internationally. 

The unquestionable success of her efforts, which also adds up to ‘’If You Asked Me to.’’ Which was another hit and made it to No.4 in Billboard Hot 100 and No 1 on the adult contemporary chart.

If we search on google, results come, ‘’The principle that hard work is intrinsically virtuous or worthy of reward’’. That means hard itself is great and equivalent to success.

According to me, this is the biggest problem. We have already assumed that Work Ethic =hard Work = Success.

Ok, let me tell you one more definition. Work means that mental or physical activity that helps us to reach a certain goal, and Ethic is derived from Greek word Ethos which means the science of morals. Ethics mean, this is my standard and I will never go down below this standard. This is my thinking and this is my belief system that I think is absolutely right.

Another way to understand the Work Ethic is that there are some standards and methods to do the work reach to the results which I cannot compromise with, rather i will raise my standards to take it to its ultimate pick. Friends if you want you can write it down somewhere.

I will never compromise with the standards and will not bring it down.

I will keep enhancing my Work Ethics and raise the standards.

Some people do not like to get late, and some people cannot shirk from their work, and for some people it is ok. That means we all can have different Work Ethics and principles.

You may have many questions in your mind. For example, I do not know what is my Work Ethic. Why people are so impressed by Celine Dion’s Work Ethics? Or can we develop a strong Work Ethic?

Let us start with the first question.

You can say that you don’t know what is your Work Ethic or you are not clear about your standards. Ok, but you must be knowing that after six months you have an exam or some official project is going to get over or you are going to apply for a new job, that means you already know your immediate goal.

Now, how you are going to get there? and that is your Work Ethic.

I want to ask you something, will you be leaving your goals on luck? Or you will drop it in confusion? Or will start working towards it? Or you will adopt some other method?

Whatever will be your thinking, it must be based on your belief system, and this approach and belief system is your Work Ethic.

As we all know that Celine Dion is naturally gifted singer, in the music industry there are many singers like Katy Perry, Adele, Lara Fabian and Barbra Streisand, but there is a difference in their Work Ethics.

Another good example of Work Ethic…If you want to know about another person, just evaluate his one-week work, or observe him for a week. As we think about ourselves, the same is our standards, and that will be reflected in our work. If everything is casual for you, then getting late and squandering time is also ok for you, but if you respect yourselves, that will be seen in your work as well.

Work Ethic starts with self-belief. Two things are clear in Celine Dion’s Work Ethic that is Handwork and Discipline, as she rightly says that ‘’There’s been nothing but discipline, discipline, discipline all my life’’, and she is clear about what she wants from her work and she can get all the best results, and through her focus and will power she can come out of any challenge. That is why in high-pressure performances she performs so well.

Next one is hard work. Talent is not everything; without Hard work, you will not even come to know when you will lose your talent.

So the next question is, why people are talking so much about Work Ethics these days?

The first thing is you cannot copy someone’s talent, but you can certainly learn from his/her Work Ethics, and it is very important.

You can learn from other’s Work Ethic that how can you reach your goals and what standards and methods you will have to follow.

Another factor is reliability- one who has a strong Work Ethic, can be trusted.

Next question is what is good Work Ethic?

A good question will be what are those qualities that we can follow to have a Great Work Ethic.

I will talk about three major qualities.

First is Reliability – Which is seen in our time and punctuality. Whether you are working with others in the office or preparing for some completive exam or you are doing freelancing. You will always have to be on time to earn trust and respect.

When you follow the time alone, then you what is more important to do during the day, and this way you can maintain productivity for the whole day. Be it your teacher, your boss, or your coach everyone likes reliable and trustworthy people.

Second is commitment.

If you have some responsibility small or big, fulfil it totally. Once you show commitment in your daily responsibilities, you will see other qualities such as confidence and leadership will start developing in its own accord. Automatically, people will also start respecting you and start following you.

Third quality is consistency

You may think consistency and reliability is the same thing, actually what is meant by consistency is the consistency of efforts.

We are sometimes so motivated, and sometime we feel today we will not be able to do anything, hence our efforts graphs are always up and down. 

Meaning of consistency in Good Work Ethic! If the performance goes down it must not go down so much, and if there are gaps in it, that should not be too many.

Consistency means keeping things simple, and consistently keep erasing the weaknesses.
