Fashion Industry Trends in Canada

fashion trends in canada

Ah, Canada- they are almost like America with a few minor differences. They have more political parties, workers have more vacation time, and put ketchup on potato chips.

Montreal is in the French Provence of Quebec, and like its European counterpart, Paris, it is considered a bit more fashion-forward than the United States. There are a few fashion trends that you will see coming out of Canada in 2021.

Loungewear is Making a Comeback

Although the days of the pandemic are coming to a close, the days of working from home and wearing comfortable clothing are not. You will find quite a few duds that are designed to forgive figure flaws.

In 2020 people came to accept that they did not have to worry about impressing their coworkers, classmates, or friends with their threads. Hence, they began to order sweatpants and sweatshirts from various online stores. You are likely to find clothing coming out of the City of Saints designed as much for comfort as it is for style.

The Tuxedo is Making a Comeback

A buttoned-up denim jacket worn with jeans is known as a Canadian tuxedo. It has been popular ever since crooner Bing Crosby wore it to a hotel in 1951.

If you want to add a personal touch to the tux, you can create a design and embroider it onto the back of a jean jacket. If you think this will cost a fortune, think again. There are online companies with computerized sewing machines that can stitch your design on a coat. You can also create tote bags, blankets, and other Custom clothing on such sites.

The Low Boot

Remember wearing high waters with short boots? Well, the Canooks are bringing that look back. You will be able to show off your socks, so be sure that they match. You may want to try making a statement with the socks you wear. You will find everything from images of Michelle Obama to Snoopy on socks nowadays. If you can’t find the ones you want, you can always go online and create your own.

Oversized Sweaters

They were popular in the 80s and nineties, and they are making a comeback now. They are warm and cozy, plus they can hide a multitude of sins. They will make most women look smaller by comparison. They look great with yoga pants or tights, and they can be worn to the office or at home.

Puffy Clothing

The virtual runway has shown a trend towards puffy sleeves in the Great White North and the rest of the world. They have disappeared and materialized over and over again since they were first introduced during victorian times. These sleeves give a summer dress a classic feminine look. You will find they are trendy on dresses with pencil skirts.

Puffy Boots are also coming back into style for trendy Canadians. You will see the return of Pillow Boots this year. Things get cold up north, and these boots are the perfect way to keep your feet warm as you trek over the ice and snow in the winter. They look great with jeans, cloth pants, and incredibly baggy dresses.

Dressing in layers has also come back into fashion in Canada. Not only are people wearing t-shirts and turtlenecks under their flannel shirts, but you will also see button-down shirts under dresses paired with stockings and those short chunky boots.

You will see women wearing men’s suit jackets over dresses and button-up shirts. You will also see thick jewelry such as bulky necklaces making a comeback.

Colors From the 1970s

Burnt orange and earthy tones are making a comeback in 2021. You will also see flared corduroys and argyle prints. Roller skating is making a comeback as well, and you are likely to see people rollerblading or skating down the street dressed in 70s attire.

T-shirts with witty sayings on them were also popular back in those days. You can wear a pair of flared jeans with a vintage t-shirt that proclaims, “I’m With Stupid” or “I’m a Pepper.”

Headscarfs

If you wonder what to do with those bandanas you bought to wrap around your face during the pandemic, wonder no more. You can use them as a headscarf. Headscarves were worn by glamour girls such as Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O  for an elegant look, and when paired with sunglasses, they can give you a sophisticated appearance.

The best fashion advice anyone can give you is to wear what you feel comfortable in. However, knowing what is in style can help you select which of your favorite outfits to wear and with what.
