Famously known for her role in Dear White People and Wednesday, Joy Sunday is a 26-year-old American actress. She was born on 25th September 1996 and was a part of different movies where she acted in side roles.

Joy Sunday – Education and Early Life

Joy was born to a Nigerian family in Staten Island, New York, United States. Besides completing her studies, she opted for theater at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in New York City. After completing high school, she attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles & graduated in critical studies.

Sunday has also worked as a filmmaker, besides her academics, at Tribeca Film Institute. Here, she worked on many shots while she was also studying. She is also great at dancing, autodidacticism and linguistics.

Joy Sunday was first seen in MacGyver in a single episode in 2018. With this episode, she made her debut in the TV industry. Later, she acted in Bad Hair and joined the League of Screen Actors Guild in 2020. In 2020’s Shithouse, she was praised for her side role as Sophia.  

Besides the above, she was also spotted in Dear White People, a Netflix series, as a guest appearance in one episode. This opened a plethora of options for Joy, and she was given side roles in movies such as Dog and The Beta Test. Her most praised performance, however, has been as Bianca Barclay in Wednesday, a 2022 Netflix series.

Joy Sunday and Her Fantasy Roles

Joy Sunday once, in an interview, said that she had always loved the role of Jodie Comer’s lead, Villanelle, in Killing Eve and would have loved to play that character. She also said she would have loved to be part of the martial arts scene in Attack on Titan. 

Sunday also said that she loves horror and would love to be a part of a zombie act. She says she likes sad music and darker media as it allows her to embrace the beauty of life and its phases.

Joy Sunday on Her Role in ‘Wednesday’

Sunday said her role in the TV series Wednesday was a new playground for her. She had to learn a lot, including fencing and walking a carpet. She even said that many of the cast, including her, had to struggle for food on the sets of Wednesday in Bucharest. According to her, it was challenging to stay healthy, especially if people had dietary restrictions.

Since her character was very athletic, she had to be careful about what she ate. She loved making herself breakfast on the days when she had time. It was the first time she lived alone, and she enjoyed cooking.

When the schedule was wrapped early, Sunday decided to go to Europe on a solo trip and headed directly to Paris. In an interview, she described how it was raining heavily, and she had no umbrella and used her pocket napkin to tie on her head and cover it.

Joy calls her friend Joy Ofudu her twin, as they both have Joy O in their names. Her friend is a comedian and an influencer and is very close to Sunday. Sunday went to the Empire State Building with her friend, which was always on her bucket list visit. They both had a gala time chit-chatting and adoring the beauty of the building.

Sunday is also close to her high school friend, Noni, with whom she had visited many art places. She has been friends with Noni for over ten years and first met in LaGuardia drama school. Sunday went to an art gallery with Noni that belonged to Noni’s boyfriend, where she enjoyed herself with friends till 2 in the morning.

The Wednesday actor had also done a play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. She did the play with Laura Jordan and Sarah Street, who were also her co-stars in another play, Intelligence. It was the first play Sunday done after completing high school and was very intimidating for her.
